$2.5-million Sandy Lane mall fire blamed on meat smoking equipment: EDMONTON - A two-alarm fire that damaged six businesses in a strip mall Oct. 12 started in vent pipes connected to a meat shop’s smoke generator, fire investigators said Friday.The blaze at Sandy Lane Shopping Centre, 15616 95th Ave., caused $1.5 million in damage to the building and $1 million in damage to contents, a spokeswoman for Edmonton Fire Rescue said in the release.
